Journey to Teaching

I never in a million years considered a teaching career. Honestly I stumbled upon my decision to pursue this major. While in high school I volunteered with a kindergarten class for a semester. I loved every minute of it, but was not yet ready to admit to myself that this is what I wanted to do with my life. After graduating I decided that college was not for me, and took a full time job as an ELL Aide for an Olathe elementary school. I worked with first graders and it was such a rewarding experience that I knew I wanted to work with kids for the rest of my life. I still had not heard about the ESU at JCCC program, and because of personal reasons I could not "go away to college." I then  decided to get a job at a middle school as a paraprofessional. loved that even more than the elementary school. That is why I hope to work with either 4th or 5th grade. I love working with the older kids because around this time they are starting to develop their own opinions and wants. Around this time I started taking classes at Johnson County Community College. Here we are two years later... I still love my job and I cannot wait to have my own classroom one day soon!
